Anyone in Britain can now access Graph Search, Facebook’s smart new development that lets you search within Facebook in an useful, intuitive and fun way. It’s a step forward from the search box we have known up to now. No matter where you reside, all you need to do is change your settings to ‘US English’ to get started.
I previewed the exciting potential of Graph Search back in March 2013 when it was but a twinkle in the eye for UK Facebook users. But the rollout has been steady and, without fanfare, the new search service is now available in Britain (and anywhere). The trade-off is putting up with US terminology here and there.
Graph Search allows you to search the Facebook ecosystem using these variables:
Here’s some examples of how I use the slightly bigger search box:
I type “My friends who live in New York” and, before I have finished, the search is auto-completed and results delivered.
Thankfully, I see no results for a search “My friends who support Birmingham City F.C.”
Fancy Japanese food tonight? Type “Japanese restaurants in >>>your home town<<<” and marvel at your choices.
For business owners, Graph Search dispels any doubt about Facebook’s marketing opportunity. Consumers use Facebook. They will use Graph Search..
